Jack Sanders Hudgins

December 30, 1928 — December 13, 2024

Jack Hudgins, a lifelong resident of his favorite place, Amarillo, TX was born December 30,1928 and passed away on December 13, 2024 just shy of turning 96. A family service and visitation will be held after the holidays.

Jack was always active, participated in sports, and always cheered those who overcame obstacles. Early on he would help coach his kid’s teams. Later, he would be part of a group that religiously worked out at the gym before sunrise. Some might remember riding with him on various 100-mile bike races. Others might remember him just listening and enjoying their company. His family remembers him working hard, ski trips and him standing not sitting. Continuing his example, at the age of 90 he won gold and silver track & field medals at the National Senior Olympic track meet. He has run with endurance the race that was set before him.

Jack was part of the Amarillo High School class of 1947, ran track and graduated from Rice University in 1951 and served in the Navy for several years. He met his wife of 69 years, Marlene, in Chicago where she was singing with the Northwestern University chorus entertaining the troops, and they returned to Amarillo to make their home. Jack worked in various business capacities and he and his much-appreciated partner, Pat Harkins, sold their interest in Western Industrial Supply Co. in 1999. After retiring he enjoyed the people at Hudgins Crosier Sumpter, PC where he gratefully officed for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Julie Morris and husband Brad, Jack Hudgins, Jr., and wife Debbie. Grandchildren: Holly Hudgins and husband Charles Fuller, Scott Hudgins, Kaki Hudgins, Brad Morris Jr. and wife Lois, Brian Morris and wife Kristi, Jack Morris, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like any memorials to be sent to Heal the City, 609 S. Carolina St., Amarillo, TX 79106, or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Rd., Amarillo, TX 79109.
