India Chaney Jarnagin – August 10, 2017

India Chaney Jarnagin, 94, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79109.
India was born July 1, 1923 in Jones Station, Maryland to Mary Elizabeth and Harry C. Chaney. She graduated from Annapolis High School and then served in the Coast Guard for three years during World War II.
India married Roy Barton Jarnagin in Annapolis, Maryland on May 17, 1947. He served in the United States Navy for 33 years before retiring as a Commander in 1966. His career in the Navy allowed them to live in many places where she enjoyed being a homemaker. In 1973 they moved to the Texas panhandle, where India resided for 44 years. In her later years, she loved crocheting and knitting items to give as gifts, reading and working on puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother Arthur Chaney; and her sisters, Hannah Prince, Dorothy Berry, Catheryn Slater, Ruth Chaney and Helen Gardner.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Jarnagin and wife Martha of Amarillo, Texas and John Jarnagin of Key Largo, Florida; her beloved grandchildren, Ben Jarnagin and wife Amanda of Amarillo, Texas, Braden Jarnagin Spalding and husband Adam of Houston, Texas, Troy Jarnagin of Denton, Texas, Summer Jarnagin Moses and husband Dan of Frederick, Maryland and Bart Jarnagin of Key Largo, Florida; four great-grandchildren she adored, Kyndall, India, Maitland and Campbell; along with many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the nurses and aides at Ware Living Center and the nurses at BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in India’s name to a favorite charity.
