Ida Mae (Gigi) Nemoede, 78, of Amarillo, passed away in the presence of loved ones on Thursday, January 26, 2022, at her home. Ida was born December 31, 1944, in Colchester, England, to parents Alston and Charlotte Reid Morrow. Her father was serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during WWII and her mother was a native of Dundee, Scotland; who was working in London during the war. Ida and her mother were a part of the “War Brides Act of 1945” a government program that brought war brides and their children back to the United States.
For most of her working years, Ida was a dedicated beautician; at one time operating her own shop in Amarillo. For the last 17 years, she was employed at Pak-A-Sak. For a number of years, Ida participated in the chili cook-off competitions not only in Texas but in Las Vegas and California.
She was also fond of trips to casinos and even in declining health was able to go last June to Oklahoma with her daughter Michelle and sister Sharon.
Ida was what you would consider a frugal shopper. There was no coupon you could conceal well enough to keep her from finding a sale. She was known for her love of anything fashionable and trendy but her first “love” and favorite musician was Elvis Presley. What Ida loved most however was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly found her calling in what it meant to be a grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert; a brother Wayne Morrow; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Left to cherish her memory are seven children, Terry Fore, Teresa Bates, Bobby Nemoede and wife Angelique, Ronnie Nemoede and wife Cathy,
Joe Nemoede, Michelle Nemoede, Jason Nemoede, and a special “bonus” daughter, Stephanie Archer, who she loved as her own; her grandchildren, Chelsea, Shauna, Amber, Kari, Amanda, Hank, Deryn, Madison, Casey, Alexis, Gracie, and Harper; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Morrow; and a sister, Sharon Fox and husband David.
Special thanks to Madison her granddaughter, for caring for her in her last couple of months. Her nurse Sandy, and aide Lupe, as well as many other family and friends.
Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., at In This Moment, 707 S. Polk, Amarillo, Texas 79110.
