Howard Lee Richey

Howard Lee Richey entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 at the age of 91.

Family will receive friends from 3-4:00 PM, Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Howard was born on February 15, 1932, in the town of Joplin, Missouri to Glenn and Alberta Richey. He was one of eight siblings who learned many valuable life lessons living and working on the family farm. He graduated from Webb City High School while working at Krogers and becoming the youngest manager.  He then entered the Armed Services, serving in the Air Force for four years during the time of the Korean War. Upon leaving the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Schmidt at a tent revival in Kentucky. After a brief courtship, they were married on June 7, 1957 and for 66 years, they celebrated a wonderful life together. During those 66 years, Howard and Carol raised four children then along came nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren that they both cherished so deeply.

Howard was a courier for Mason & Hanger in Kentucky, which later became Pantex. He was then transferred to Amarillo, TX in 1965. After many years with the company, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start up and run his own business, Steamway of Amarillo, for 40 years. Upon his retirement, he discovered his love for golf, going on cruises, traveling in his motor home with his beloved chihuahuas, and gardening.

He displayed a true servant’s heart by faithfully serving others in both his church and the community.  He served as a deacon on the board at First Family Church for 16 years, he also enjoyed being a greeter and helping out wherever needed.  In addition, he delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years, and visited the sick and those who were often overlooked. He was truly a man of great integrity and character; an example to many.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Alberta Richey; seven brothers and sisters, Josephine Barrow, Alice Richey, Glenn Richey, Connie Krudwig, Marvin Richey, Lorele Vanzant, Carole Savell; and son, Barry Lee Richey.

He is survived by his bride of 66 years, Carol Ann Richey: and his three daughters, Joy Faith Terrazas (Rocky) of Plano, Texas, Melody Ann Willis (Eddie) of Amarillo, Texas and Gay Ruth Richey of Amarillo, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Matthew Richey, Andrew Richey, Christopher Richey, Kevin Willis, Stephen Willis, Kimberly Willis, Andrea Garrison, Seth Garrison and Corbin Garrison; along with great grandchildren, Elizabeth Richey, Ransom Richey, Anna Richey, Denton Willis, and Tinlee Willis.
