Gwen Fraze

Longtime Amarillo resident, Gwen Wright Fraze, died peacefully on Feb. 28, 2024, five days after her 86th birthday.

Gwen was born in Hutchinson, KS, and not long after she started to explore the US, travelling to and living in many states and graduating from high school in Baltimore, MD. Although she was an only child, her teen years living with her mischievous cousins proved she would have been the world’s best older sister.

Gwen settled in Amarillo, TX after graduating from Cornell University with a BS in English and dismissing the notion that she would accept a role as a Bond Girl. Among other professional pursuits, she worked in careers from television to hospital administration, but eventually found real estate the perfect cover for her real job, raising her children with her late husband and fellow art lover, Denny.

Gwen is survived by those grateful children, David Fraze, Jennifer Reese McCarthy, Buck Reese, and Wendy Fraze Aguilar, as well as seven admiring grandchildren – along with her unstoppable Delta Gamma sisters, PEO pals, TriDelt renegades, and many other friends who will always recollect her indefatigably fun-loving disposition.

A funeral service for Gwen will be held at 10:00am on March 16, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Amarillo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gwen’s memory to the “Denny T. Fraze Art and Graphic Design Scholarship” will be gratefully accepted at the Amarillo College Foundation via
