Gerald Lee Hamby

Gerald Lee Hamby, 86, of Amarillo, TX passed away February 27, 2023.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 3, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM, in Westpark Cemetery in Hereford, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Gerald was born July 5, 1936, in Olton, TX. The family moved to Hereford, TX when he was in 2

nd

grade where he remained until 2004 when he moved to Amarillo to be closer to family. Gerald grew up on farms in Olton, Summerfield, and the Hereford area. As a teenager, he loved all of the cars he owned and was proud of all of the work he put into them. At age 19, he became the youngest Real Estate Broker in the State of Texas and continued in the business until 2021. In addition to Real Estate, he was an Insurance Agent for Farmers Insurance for 24 years.

Gerald had many interests and skills. He was Mr. Fix It, thanks to his skills in carpentry, plumbing, and roofing. He shared his love of gardening with his children and plowed the plot for them each spring. He was an avid fisherman and never fished a lake that he didn’t like. It wasn’t about the fish he hooked, but the process, the serenity, and the beauty of the land that surrounded him. His passion for photography along with his desire to fish many lakes, produced amazing landscape and wildlife photos.

Gerald loved to meet new people and catch-up with his many friends. He could easily start a conversation with a stranger which would lead to many more conversations in the future. He was a Philosopher and Poet committing his thoughts and poetry to paper and sharing them with friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Una Clarice Parker and Jady Melvin Hamby; brothers, James Hamby and Durward Hamby; and his son, Kevin Hamby.

Gerald is survived by his brother, Harold Hamby; his daughter, Susan Hamby Richardson and husband Mike; grandsons, Jared Richardson, Joshua Richardson and wife Kelsey; great-granddaughter, Evali; great-grandson, Grady; son, Scott Hamby; daughter in law, Stacy Hamby; grandson, Hunter Hamby; grandson, Jeremy Hamby and wife, Leanne; great-grandsons, Jaxon and Miles; great-granddaughter, Lynnix; special friend, Janie Foster; and many nieces and nephews.
