George Russey Parr III, 81, of Amarillo, TX passed away on April 5, 2022.
George Russey Parr III was born October 23, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas, to George Russey Parr Jr. and Zua Gae Warner Parr. Amarillo was home to George for 81 years until the morning of April 5, 2022, when he succumbed to terminal cancer while still a patient in Five Points Rehabilitation facility of Amarillo and died peacefully in his sleep with his wife and family by his side.
George married Sharon Price in Amarillo, Texas, in 1965, and she gave him two beautiful sons, George Russey Parr IV of Santa Fe, NM and Brett Price Parr of Pecos, NM. He was blessed by and proud of his five grandchildren, Grace Parr, Patching Parr, Bella Parr, Ruth Parr, all of Amarillo, TX, Dove Parr of Denver, CO, and one stepson, Colby Barron, of Battle Ground, Washington.
George met Joan Marie Pruett in March of 2007, in Amarillo, TX. They were married seven years later, to the day, by Judge Arthur Ware in the home of Tuggie and Loralei Tuckness, with attendees Will and Lisa Price.
George attended Amarillo public schools until his acceptance to NMMI in Roswell, NM, where he graduated from High School. He later joined the U. S. Army where he volunteered and qualified for The Special Forces Green Berets. His experience and training as a young child hunting and handling of firearms gave him an advantage at military school. His collection throughout life of countless awards, trophies, and accomplishments in expert marksmanship equipped him as a teacher and trainer of all ages in handling of firearms.
There were not enough walls in any home or office to display the vast collection of the many expressions of gratitude and certificates of appreciation he received for innumerable hours of volunteer community service as a member or Board member of many organizations such as the Texas Game Warden’s Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Special Forces Association, to name only a few. As a board member of the Amarillo chapter of the American Red Cross and as a volunteer, George worked disasters nationwide such as the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his only sister, Mary Gae Parr, and his favorite old dog and best friend, Merle.
George is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home, all his children and grandchildren.
