Gary Wayne Guffey Sr., 75, of Wichita Falls passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, with Pastor Lee Guffey, officiating.

Gary was born on December 20, 1943 to the late Charles and Anna Marie (Jacobs) Guffey in Wichita Falls. He graduated from Altus High School and furthered his education at Cameron University, where he played in the Jr. College Rosebowl in Pasadena, California. Gary received a Bachelor’s Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State. After college, he started a career in coaching football and baseball at Crockett Middle School in Amarillo and at S.H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls. Gary retired from the coaching field in 1982 and he started an insurance office through Farmers Insurance Company for a few years. After the insurance business, he went into auto sales with Herb Easley in Wichita Falls until he fully retired in 2013 to enjoy life. Gary was an avid sports fan, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing and he has been recognized for several “Holes in One”. Gary will be missed by many.

Along with his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a son, Damon Guffey; and a brother, Larry Guffey.

He is survived by a son, Gary Guffey Jr.; and a daughter, Leah Guffey Nuckels; four brothers, Charlie Guffey, Eugene Guffey, Howard Guffey, and Carl Guffey; four sisters, Frances Whister, Barbara Wolfe, Millie Bingham, and Ellen Miller.

The family would like to thank the staff of  Archer City Vista Living for all their love and care, and request memorials be made in Gary’s name to 201 E Chestnut St, Archer City, TX 76351.
