Gary Thornberry of Amarillo, Texas passed away March 4, 2023. He was 79. At his request, a private family gathering was held at the home.
Gary was born December 1, 1943, in Amarillo to Vivian Gollihugh Thornberry and Wylie Leroy Thornberry.
Gary was a private man, a praying man who believed in Our Lord and Jesus Christ.
He worked in the cattle feeding industry for 50+ years. He was very proud of the friends he made in those years and how dedicated they were to the business and the improvements made during that time.
Gary was an avid golfer who only made 1 hole-in-one in all those hours and days and weeks and months and years he played but he still loved it. He started out as a caddie at Amarillo Country Club when he was a young teenager and had not stopped playing until his illness took all of his strength.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Cora and Clovis Thornberry and Neta and Bill Gollihugh; and his brothers, Edward and Robert.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie; his two sons who he had so much pride in, Michael and wife Rachel, and Brandon. His grandchildren who he loved to tease and give a hard time Alex, Sarah, and Tyler Woolsey, Dylan, Jessica, Kyra and Taryn. His five GREAT-grandsons, Emmanuel, Mac and Van Thornberry, and Barrett and Sheppard Woolsey. Several nieces and nephews, and greats in this group too. His brother, Richard and sisters, Joyce and Jackie Austin, and LeeAnn Demke. His brothers and sisters-in-laws, Marvin and Kim Bender and Nolden and Jan Smith.
Special and dear friends, Kay and Mike McCormick and Bob and Marion Denny. Good times (the best), bad times, and sad times.
He was Jennie’s Love.
