Gary Russell Clark – March 26, 2018

On March 26, 2018 our husband, daddy, Grandad walked peacefully to Jesus.  Even in the midst of our deepest sadness, God is with our family and we rest in His grace.

Gary Russell Clark was born on May 2, 1945 in Hobbs, New Mexico.  He spent most of his youth in Waco, Texas.  Gary attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where he met and fell in love with Carol Louise Simmons.  Gary and Carol were married December 23, 1967 at Gary’s parents home in Waco, Texas and had recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past December with family in Little Rock.

Gary and Carol spent their early years in Amarillo, Pampa and Canyon, Texas where Gary spent eight years in the Marine Reserves.  He began a 26-year career with Sysco Foods in Amarillo that eventually took him to Marshall, Longview and Garland, Texas.  He retired in 2007 to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where he pursued his passions of golf, volunteering and rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Fightin’ Texas Aggies.  Gary was an elder at Kirk in the Pines Presbyterian Church, served on many committees and loved the fellowship of his many friends in the church.  Gary would often say, “It’s another great day in the Village!”

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Marilyn, a sister, Linda, and a brother, Randy.  He will be sadly missed by his wife, Carol, his son Joel and wife Lynda of Frisco, Texas, his daughter Jennifer and husband Gary of Amarillo, Texas.  His most prized treasures – four grandchildren – Emily, Jake, Elena and Eisley will never forget their Grandad.  He is also survived by two sisters, Terry and Colleen, a brother, Richard, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Kirk in the Pines Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.  Memorial donations in memory of Gary can be made to Vera Lloyd Children’s Home at 745 Old Warren Road, Monticello, Arkansas 71655.

I had the real privilege of serving with Gary on the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services Board of Directors. Gary was a passionate advocate for the children of Vera Lloyd, was always kind in his dealings with others, and lived his faith. He will be greatly missed.

A life well lived and a blessing to all he associated with, that was Gary. Thanks for being that special coworker in your early Sysco days.
