Mary Levon Trammell Walkup, 96, of Amarillo, Texas, died July 21, 2024. 

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Corky Holland officiating. Burial will be at Hollis Cemetery, Hollis Oklahoma at 3:00 PM the same day. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. 

Mary Levon Trammell Walkup was born in Lamb County, TX on February 12, 1928, to Arthur Cecil and Ethel Jewel Reynolds Trammell. Mary and James knew each other as children because their moms were best friends! Mary went on to marry James Walkup on July 12, 1952, in Hollis. They moved to Amarillo where James already had a job, and Mary went to work for a Dentist Dr. Don Fong. 

Mary and James had 2 children, Cynthia, and Kent. They belonged to South Lawn Baptist Church, and then helped to build Bolton St. Baptist Church. Sunday School classes met in their garage, and the church met in a home. The members helped to build the first building. Mary helped with Women’s Missionary Union and started teaching Girl’s Auxiliary at Bolton St. They then moved again and joined San Jacinto Baptist Church when Carlos Mc Cloud was Pastor. Mary and James loved to go on mission trips with Rev. B. L Davis and his wife Ellen. During those years they went on several mission trips to Mexico. Mary went to Korea 3 times and Japan twice. 

Then in 1977 the family joined First Baptist Church, with Pastor Dr. Winfred Moore. Mary and James loved working with the International Sunday School Class with Dorothy Walker and Hazel Mosley, starting in the 1980’s and through early 2000’s. Mary made 2 trips to the Holy Lands. Mary taught English as a Second Language Classes, and Citizenship Classes for several years. She was active in Women’s Missionary Union for many years. She led the Sky and Daniel Women’s group. 

Mary enjoyed working for DMV Dr. Sam Reeves for about 5 years 1965-1970. Mary worked for Charles Patton from 1970 until 1997 and ran his plumbing office. 

Mary lived on her own after James passed away in 2019 until the present.

Preceded in death by her parents Arthur Cecil Trammell and Ethel Jewel Reynolds Trammell, her husband James, her siblings Cecil Dell Alexander, John William Trammell, Naomi Jo Sutton, and Shirley Gregersen.

She is survived by a sister Bennie Trammell Davis, 2 children a daughter Cindie Palmer, and a son Kent and his wife Sue. Her 2 grandchildren April (Walkup) Beckner and her husband Aaron Beckner. Her grandson Christopher Walkup. Her great grandchildren Blayke Beckner, Hannah Pierson, Jade Walkup. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. 

A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
