Fredda Ann Mitchell

Fredda Ann Putnam Mitchell, 85, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas. 

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 4th in Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Amarillo. 

Fredda was born November 22, 1938 on the family farm southeast of Hollis, Oklahoma to Bryan and Alma Putnam. She attended Hollis schools and graduated in 1957. Fredda married Charles Rayworth “Ray” Mitchell in Hollis on August 30, 1958. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1998.

Fredda and Ray enjoyed being both Oklahomans and Texans. They lived in Hollis, Granite, Lubbock, Sierra Blanca, and Abernathy. They both earned their college degrees at Texas Tech, and Fredda taught elementary school until her retirement in 1999.

After retiring from teaching in Abernathy, Fredda moved to Amarillo to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She became involved in church at Paramount Baptist and met many new friends. 

Fredda, also known as “E-Ma” and “Ma-Ma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always loved hosting Christmas Eve dinner at her home for her family and enjoyed traditions such as playing the Christmas pickle game, drinking hot cinnamon apple cider, and exchanging gifts. 

Survivors include two children, Roger Mitchell and wife Mollie of Canyon; Janet Laughter and husband Larry of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Max Mitchell and wife Berkley of Amarillo; Macy Mitchell of Denton; Cy Laughter and wife Brittney of Amarillo; Ashley Laughter of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Avery, Kennedie, and Carter; and a sister, Betty Motley of Hollis. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Fredda was preceded in death by; her brother, Carl Edwin “Ed” Putnam; and her sister, Ruth “Ruthie” Alice Anderson.
