Dobervich Obit Pic (2)Florence Dobervich, 89, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.
Private family services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Florence was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Kansas City, MO, moved to Leavenworth, KS then to Tulsa, OK.  She graduated from Tulsa Central High School and the University of Oklahoma.  She met George Dobervich when they were freshmen at OU.  They were married on Sept. 1, 1946, at the First Christian Church in Oklahoma City, OK when George returned from duty as a Naval Lieutenant after World War II.  They renewed their vows on Sept. 1, 1996, at the Orchard Mesa Community Church in Palisade, CO.
Florence worked as a commercial artist, window decorator, and a draftsperson.  Her favorite job was working at the Varsity Bookstore on the Corner in Norman, OK.  However, the “best job ever was being a mom.”
She joined Panhandle Geological Auxiliary in 1951, when they were sent to Amarillo by the Pure Oil Co.  Florence worked with the Girl Scouts and later the Boy Scouts.  She was a member and volunteer at the Western Colorado Botanical Society of Grand Junction, CO.  Florence was a docent at the Amarillo Museum of Art.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on Dec. 3, 1996, and her younger sister, Julie; and a special niece, Susan McCoffey.
Survivors include two sons, Brad and his wife Jane of Tyler and Danny of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Tamy of Newport Beach, CA, Joe of Richland, WA, Dustin and wife Teresa of Austin and Derek and Jenny of Little Elm; great-grandchildren, Shayden and Brayden; and 18 favorites nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to High Plains Food Bank, 815 Ross Street, Amarillo, TX 79102; or to a favorite charity.
