Evelyn La Paula Hemphill

Evelyn La Paula Hemphill, 87, of Amarillo, TX passed away March 18, 2024.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 22, 2024, at First Baptist Church Chapel, 1208 S. Tyler. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.  There will be a private family graveside service.

La Paula was born October 3, 1936, in Amarillo, TX to Robert and Marie Cody.  She graduated Amarillo High School in 1955 and married her high school sweetheart, D’Nard Hemphill the following August.  “Polly”, as she was lovingly named by some family members, devoted her life to supporting her husband and family by managing their home.  She spent much of her life in Christian ministry; not only building a foundation of faith for her children, nieces, and grandchildren, but also teaching Sunday School for all ages, from preschool to adults.

La Paula is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clay Cody, and son-in-law, Zan Walker.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, D’Nard Hemphill, along with their three children; Mark Hemphill & wife Mary, Latitia Walker, and Beverly Davis & husband Matthew; six grandchildren, Daniel Hemphill, Elizabeth Demlow and husband Brett, Caitlin Tidwell and husband Nicholas, Shelby Walker, Hunter Davis, and Mattisyn Davis; two great-grandsons, Brooks and Riley Tidwell, sister-in-law Linda Cody, and nieces Chris Duarte and husband Rolando, Schelle Miller and husband Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in La Paula’s name to First Baptist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or your favorite Charity.
