Eugene “Gene” F. Gidel, 95, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
A family service will be held at a later date. Interment is at Llano Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Gene was born July 29, 1917, at Rockwell City, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Josephine Stumpf Gidel. He entered the banking profession in 1937, serving banks in Des Moines and Ackley, Iowa. He and his family moved from Ackley to Amarillo in 1960, where he became associated with the American National Bank, now Chase. He retired from banking in 1982.
Gene served in the Army during World War II from January 1942 to February 1946, serving two years in the European Theatre of Operations. He held the rank of Major at the time of release from active duty.
Gene married Jayne Carrier on June 18, 1943, at Little Rock, Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife, Jayne; a son, John Gidel of Austin; two daughters, Margot Levatino and husband Sal, and Mary Fraser, both of Austin; two brothers, Dale Gidel and wife Harriet of Rockwell City and Wayne Gidel and wife Mary of Clearwater, FL; three sisters, Evelyn Waterman of Rochester, MN, Maxine Bagnall of Lincoln, CA and Beverly McColley and husband Adrian of Ft. Dodge, IA.
