Ernestine Fincher Montgomery passed from this world to have Easter with her Lord on March 29, 2018. Ernestine, aged 95, was born July 20, 1922. She grew up in a fun-loving Christian farming family, the second of nine children, with four brothers and four sisters. They moved to Quanah when Ernestine was young and worked hard there on their farm. After graduating high school, she worked for Western Union during WWII in Shamrock where she met her husband, Calvin. Married 72 years, they lived and worked in Amarillo since 1952, but for several years they lived and farmed in Perryton. The family attended and was active in First Baptist Church. Ernestine taught Sunday school to young children for many years. Ernestine was a smiling sweet presence wherever she was.
Ernestine is survived by her husband Calvin, son Don, daughter Linda; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many relatives from her large family.
Services will be held in the basement chapel at First Baptist Church in Amarillo, at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 2, 2018. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
