Ernest “Paul” Shawver

Ernest “Paul” Shawver, 76, of Amarillo, TX died Saturday, December 9, 2023.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Paul was born November 25, 1947, in Jacksboro, TX to Anderson David Shawver and Eva Tabitha Cashion Shawver.

While attending Jacksboro High School, Paul was a player on the 1966 State Championship football team.  He also was in band, choir, and the Barbershop Quartet.  Following graduation from Jacksboro High School, Paul earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington where he was a member of the UTA Choir.

Paul was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro and a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Amarillo.

He married Karen Smith on March 15, 1986.

Paul worked for the Texas Department of Human Resources, Children’s Protective Services, and was Regional Director of the Texas Workforce Commission.  Upon retirement, he enjoyed buying and selling antiques on 6

Street on Route 66 in Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Cashion Shawver; father, Anderson “Andy” Shawver; sister, Mary Lois Slaton; brother-in-law, Ed Slaton; niece, Eva Marie Solomon; sister-in-law, Sandra Lewis Shawver; mother-in-law, Maxine Rice; and father-in-law, William B. Rice.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Shawver, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Paula Guidry, of Rowlett, TX; son, Ben Shawver, of Denton, TX; stepson, Byron Smith and wife Tiffany, of Lubbock, TX; stepdaughter, Darci Smith Nuss and husband Jon, of Frederick, MD; brother, David Shawver, of Richardson, TX; brother-in-law, Bill Rice and wife Edna, of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Cox and husband Terry, of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa, Bryce, Avery, and Quinn; nieces and nephews, Casey, Cori, Michelle, William, Russell, Sarah, and John.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Paul Shawver to Wesley Community Center, South Campus, 1615 S Roberts St., Amarillo, TX 79102; or First United Methodist Church, 406 N Main St., Jacksboro, TX 76458.
