Emily Meredith (Neece) Wilson

December 13, 1947 — December 17, 2024

Emily Meredith (Neece) Wilson, age 77 of Amarillo, TX, received her promotion from this earthly plane on December 17, 2024, with her daughter by her side.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the Sanctuary at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church 1601 S. Georgia St. Amarillo, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Emily was born on December 13, 1947, at the old Northwest Texas Hospital and grew up in Clarendon, Texas. She graduated from Clarendon High School in 1966. In 1968 she graduated from Clarendon Junior College (now Clarendon College) with honors as the Salutatorian. In 1970 she graduated from West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M) and upon completion she obtained employment at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and then Amarillo Montessori School. In the late 1970s she decided to continue her education, obtaining her Master's degree from West Texas State University, choosing counseling as her career. After securing her Master's degree, she obtained employment with Buckner’s Children and Family Services and Catholic Family Services. Emily retired after a stellar career from Samaritan Pastoral Counseling.

She had a zest for life that was unmatched by few in this world as she spoke often of enjoying life more, the older she got. She had many amazing friends, whom she dearly loved, and enjoyed many adventures with such as camping, book club, centering prayer, making prayer shawls, and volunteering at Chalice Abbey to name just a few. Emily was a great storyteller and even enjoyed attending storytelling seminars. There she learned to tell stories to her grandchildren trying to scare them with tales woven of “Wheeler” watching their eyes grow big, all the while giggling under her breath and rewarding them with whip cream straight from the can. Her storytelling did not stop with her grandchildren, as she did not miss a chance to sit down with a good glass of wine to recall childhood memories with her brother and daughter and tell tales of the adventures she shared with her treasured friends. Emily not only embraced new and amazing adventures, but she took on the tough times with just as much vim and vigor, getting up every morning and making a conscious choice to help her friends, family and clients battle their demons daily, all the while battling her own. Her strength never ceased to amaze the people around her, and they often found themselves turning to her for peace, love and comfort knowing there would be no judgement neither in her eyes or her heart.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Fr Charles Wilson, her parents, Berkley (Ryan) and Lawrence Neece, Her son-in-law, Don Simmons, her granddaughter, Allison Wilson, and her great granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Gatlin.

She leaves behind her brother Larry Neece, her daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Butch Segler, her sons, Kevyn Bobo, Bryan Wilson, and Kevin Wilson as well as, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Although Emily is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by more people than could ever be listed here, we take comfort in knowing that she is free from the body and mind that were limiting her here on earth.
