Elvin Wendel Cumbie

Elvin Wendel Cumbie, 92, of Amarillo, TX died Monday, February 3, 2025.

Private services will be held. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

Elvin was born July 9, 1932, in Boggy Depot, OK to Virgil and Linnie Cumbie. 

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. 

Elvin was a firefighter with the Amarillo Fire Department.

He married JoAnn Bolin on June 22, 1955. During their marriage, they shared their home with more than 300 foster children.

Elvin was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; and his parents.

Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Daniels and husband Mike, of Amarillo, TX, Susan Johnston and husband Charlie, of Denison, TX, and Pamela Cook and husband Steve, of Amarillo, TX; fourteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
