Elizabeth Lois “Betsy” Mccampbell

Elizabeth Lois “Betsy” McCampbell, 80, of Amarillo, TX passed away on July 17, 2022.

Betsy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend!

Betsy was born on May 28th, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska to the Reverend Lewis and Elizabeth Koerselman. She lived most of her childhood in Elbow Lake, MN, and Tulia, TX. She graduated from Tulia High School and then graduated from West Texas State University and Texas A&M University.

Betsy taught at Palo Duro High School for 28 years, prior to retiring in 2001. She was incredibly proud to be a “Don!” Some of her longest and closest relationships were with her peers at Palo Duro High. They loved pulling practical jokes on one another and Betsy was always known for telling stories in the teacher’s lounge! She referred to her students as “her kids” and she always took great pride in their accomplishments and followed many throughout her life.

Betsy thoroughly enjoyed relationships and people! She served on various committees throughout the years and was a member of the St. Luke Church Choir. Upon retirement, Betsy taught a Women’s Bible Study, and looked forward to her Wednesday afternoon card games with her ladies’ group!

Above all else, Betsy was devoted to her family! She and her husband, David McCampbell, were married just a few weeks shy of 57 years. They had two children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Betsy lived unconditional love and she truly loved her family’s spouses as if they were her own. As “Gran”, being involved with her grandkids was her greatest enjoyment in life! She always enjoyed attending their events and activities and then bragging on them to her friends as often as possible!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Elizabeth Koerselman; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Betty McCampbell; and one brother, the Reverend Lewis Koerselman Jr.

She will be remembered by her husband, Ltc. Colonel David McCampbell, Retired; her daughter, Kelly Taylor and husband Sean; her son, Chip McCampbell and wife Rhonda; her grandkids, Jennifer and spouse Kristi, Michael and fiancée Kristen, Katie, Trey David, and Marley; her great-grandkids, Sophia, Callie, and Laila; her one brother, Walt Koerselman and wife Karen; her two sisters-in-law, Debra Consodine and her husband Kevin, and Shannon Jarnigan; and her many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
