Elaine Harrell Mitchell, a long-time resident of Dallas, Texas, went to be with her Lord on December 2, 2023. She left this world surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly.
Born on October 22, 1931 to Marshall Allen Harrell and Mary Lee Blackburn Harrell, Elaine grew up with her two brothers, Marshall, Jr. and Donald, in San Antonio, Texas. She came from a long line of Texans, certain of whom were among the Old Three Hundred who helped settle Texas with Stephen F. Austin. Elaine graduated from Alamo Heights High School, and attended The University of Texas at Austin where she majored in the Plan II Honors Program.
After completing college, Elaine married Douglas Van Fleet Adamson and they had four children. Elaine raised her children in Dallas where she had a long, dedicated career in real estate.
Elaine was a member of Highland Park Methodist Church for over 50 years, PEO, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Tri Delta and several of Dallas’s beloved book clubs. She was devoted to and engaged in many philanthropic ventures in the Dallas community. Throughout her childhood in San Antonio, college years in Austin and post college and professional years in Dallas, she made many dear, beloved and life-long friends.
Elaine especially loved the arts. Among her fondest memories were of those times spent with her close friends, children and grandchildren visiting exhibits at the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Dallas Arboretum and attending symphonies of the Dallas Winds and musicals at Fair Park.
She is survived by her four children, Elaine Adamson Morris and her husband, Joe Morris, of Amarillo, Texas, Douglas Van Fleet Adamson, Jr. and his wife, Beverly Adamson, of Durant, Oklahoma, Mary Margaret Adamson, of Dallas, Texas, and Marshall Edward Adamson, of Dallas, Texas, by her eight grandchildren and by her twelve great-grandchildren. Her strength, grace, leadership and constant love for her children and grandchildren has left a lasting impact on all of their lives and they will miss her immensely.
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at the Sycamore at Park Central for their daily, loving care and gentle kindness towards Elaine. It was evident in her joyful and peaceful demeanor. The family also wishes to thank BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their gracious work in tandem with the staff at the Sycamore during Elaine’s last days.
