Edward S. Morris, 88 of Amarillo died July 13, 2012.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, July 16th in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Howard Griffin officiating. Family burial will be held in Llano Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. The family will visit with friends at the reception following the service.
Mr. Morris was born April 14, 1924, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Mr. & Mrs. Joe S. Morris and moved to Amarillo in 1927. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Upon joining the Navy R.O.T.C while at school, he received a naval commission during October 1944. Mr. Morris served in the Pacific Theater until his return to the United States in May 1946. He later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Mr. Morris also attended Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business to complete the Stanford Executive Program. He married Gladys McGlasson in Amarillo on August 28, 1946. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
His entire business career was devoted to the oil and gas industry. He retired in 1986 from Pioneer Production Corporation as Chairman and C.E.O. and as Vice Chairman of the Board of Pioneer Corporation. He was active in both local and national petroleum industry affairs and served as a director of the Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association, vice president of the Texas Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association, director of the Independent Petroleum Association of America and member of the American Petroleum Institute.
He also served as a director of Texas Commerce Bank-Amarillo, vice president of the former Amarillo Art Center Board of Trustees, member of the Advisory Council for KACV-TV, a member of the governing boards of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Amarillo, and Chairman of the Amarillo College Foundation from 1990 to 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Morris, two sons; E. Stan Morris, Jr. and wife Kathy, Joe M. Morris and wife Elaine, all of Amarillo, five grandchildren; Edward S. Morris, III, Joe Sterling Morris, II, Jordan Morris Ware, Joe M. Morris, Jr. and Claire Morris, and three great grandchildren; Noah Morris, Jules Morris and Liam Ware.
The family requests that all memorials be in the form of contributions to, Opportunity School, 1100 S.
