Edgar “Ed” Owen Grund

Edgar “Ed” Owen Grund, 86, of Amarillo, TX died Monday, August 8, 2022.

Burial will be in Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, at 2 pm, Monday, August 15, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel at 10 AM, Saturday August 20, 2022. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ed was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 12, 1936, to William and Eveline Grund.  He graduated from Menomonie Falls High School in June 1954.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on July 1, 1954.  He trained as an aircraft mechanic on the B47 in Amarillo, TX where he met Zonia Golden.  They went steady for the 4 months he was in Amarillo.  The fall of 1955 he left for assignment to Duluth, MN.  After 10 months of staying in touch, Zonia, and Ed each met someone else and each married.  Zonia raised her family in Amarillo, Mike Kirkland, Sandra Blades, and Anna Wallace.  Ed married Claudine Kenville and raised five children, Debra Casalett of St. Peters, MO, Roy Grund, of Valparaiso, FL, and Timothy Grund of Abilene, TX, James Grund, of Clanton, Alabama, and Jeffrey Grund of Clyde, Texas. After 25 years of service, with tours in Goose Bay Labrador, Vietnam, and England with various stateside assignments, three in California, one in North Dakota, and one in upper Michigan, and finally retiring in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Upon retiring, he worked in manufacturing.  After 41 years of marriage, he was divorced in 1997.  The day after being served with divorce papers, he received a letter from Zonia, who had searched and found him on the internet.  After 42 years of separation, they found the “mojo” was still there and over the course of one and a half years, many phone calls, gifts and flowers exchanged, and several visits they got married May 9, 1998.  Their combined families blessed them with fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, and a great-great-granddaughter.

Ed was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers; a sister; and his wife Zonia Grund.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Christian School, 5005 I-40 W, Amarillo, TX.
