Edgar “Ed” Carl Podzemny Jr. passed into the arms of Jesus on November 8th, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. Ed was born June 8, 1949, to Edgar & Dorothy May Podzemny. As a lifelong resident of Amarillo, he attended St. Joseph’s School, Price College, and Canyon High, excelling in football and basketball. He graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in Business and went on to become a successful entrepreneur in the oil & gas industry for more than 40 years. The highlight of Ed’s career was the creation of TEEMS, a business he envisioned would unite his family in continuing his legacy.
Ed had a charismatic presence that drew people in and led by example as a respected mentor to countless young men. He was a person of integrity, known for “telling it like it is,” with a tough exterior and a heart of gold.
Throughout his life, Ed was a master of all trades and often used his endless talents to the benefit of others. He enjoyed and excelled in a wide variety of sports including racquetball, golf, hunting, and fishing. He also loved music, grilling, cooking, and gardening. Raising cattle was a lifelong passion, an interest he shared with his beloved cousin, Donna Myatt, until the final days of his life.
Ed is survived by his wife, Teresa, of over 40 years, his son Edgar Carl Podzemny III & wife Kelly, his daughter Elizabeth Podzemny & husband Lewis Marshall, his son Matt Podzemny & wife Sarah, his daughter Suzanne Podzemny & fiancée Ella Bardin, 6 grandchildren, a brother Richard Podzemny & wife Lea, a brother Mike Podzemny & wife Carmen, his mother-in-law Dr. Deann Merchant, and scores of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at 202 Banks Amarillo, TX 79124 at 5:00 pm. A viewing will be available from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 10th, 2022. Arrangements have been made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral home.
