Eddie Dean Townsend was born on January 7, 1954, in Pampa, Texas. He passed away at his home in Amarillo, Texas on July 13, 2023 at the age of 69.
He met the love of his life, Deborah Sue Smith, in Jayton, TX in August of 1980 and they were married 2 months later October 11, 1980, in Jayton. They were married 42 years.
Ed and Deborah raised their two children, Holly and Lindsey in Fritch, TX before moving to Amarillo in 2003 upon retirement. Ed worked for Phillips Co-Poly plant in Borger, TX before operations ceased in 1984. Thereafter, he was employed by Phillips Pipeline for 30 years before retiring.
Ed lived most of his early childhood years in Santa Paula, CA. He loved to tell the stories of playing in the orange orchards and riding his bike with his friends through town. He often told the story of riding his bike with no pedals after they broke off.
Ed graduated from Pampa High School in 1973 where he played football for the Harvesters, and he was named an outstanding nose-tackle and guard to the All-District and All-State Football Teams. After graduating Pampa High School, he attended Magnolia State University on
scholarship and he transferred to Oklahoma Panhandle State University on scholarship as well. Playing football was a big highlight in his life. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners fan. His dream was to go to the Red River shootout in Dallas.
He loved to tell the story of when he won a trip to the Super Bowl in Miami in 1989 through a Dallas Cowboys contest.
Taking his family on fun vacations was a priority for Ed. He doted on the fact that he was able to take them from coast to coast seeing the country, from Disney World to Pikes Peak. He cherished those memories of the laughs and time he had with his family on those road trips.
Ed loved to ride his bicycle to take his wife, Deborah, lunch at work just to be able to see her throughout his day. Every Saturday was his special Donut Day where he would take Scarlett and Eastan a special treat. He looked forward to that day all week.
The light of his life were his grandchildren, Scarlett and Eastan. He loved to tell them all the fun stories of his childhood and how much he loved them both. He would have given the shirt off his back for his family. He loved them more than anything and he was the best Pops, Dad, and Husband we could have ever asked for.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Deborah, his daughter Holly Nolen and her husband Josh, his daughter Lindsey Moore and her husband Aaron, and his grandchildren, Scarlett Grace and Eastan Alexander Nolen.
Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. G. A. Roach officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
