Dylan Thomas Bird

May 29, 1987 — January 13, 2025

On Monday January 13th Dylan Bird, 37, left this mortal plane suddenly and unexpectedly.

Born to Kasi and Craig Bird in Dallas Texas on May 29th 1987, Dylan Thomas Bird was a gentle soul and a curious mind. As a young family they lived in several cities before settling back in Amarillo, Texas.

Dylan graduated Tascosa High School early, and while not completing higher education, he was always eager to learn and found a passion for music that turned into a guiding light for the rest of his life. But of course musicians have to eat too, so Dylan found a second passion in cooking. Known as the best hibachi chef in Amarillo (according to that one Facebook review) Dylan loved putting on a show, serving rice and dad jokes to anyone lucky enough to be at his grill. He had recently hung up the chef hat and traded rice for beans, working tirelessly at the business his family owned, PJs Coffee of New Orleans.

On a sunny day in November 2016 Dylan married Taylor Camarillo surrounded by family and friends, in a ceremony that can only be considered as legendary. While their love story wasn’t as long as it should have been, it was filled with a love and quiet understanding that one only finds when they meet their soulmate. Together they filled their time with as many concerts as possible, continuing their shared love for music and the thrill only achieved by singing your favorite song at the top of your lungs next to the one you love.

Only one feeling could ever top that, and it was the pride and joy Dylan got from becoming a father to his two children, Lennon Thomas and Pepper Quinn Bird. Wanting to instill only the best of himself, he was a patient and doting father, giving his children the best start in life. The sadness is felt most in knowing he won’t see the results of the solid foundation he laid, but its sound structure will last generations.

He was greeted in death by his father, Thomas Craig Bird. Those who live on to tell his story include his wife Taylor, children Lennon and Pepper; mother Kimberly (Kasi) Gray and her husband Scott Gray; sister Julia Bird; nephew Craig Bird; stepbrother Nicholas Gray; nephew Miles Gray; along with numerous beloved family members.

The service to honor and celebrate Dylan’s life will be held Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 at 10:00 am at Hillside Christian Church Amarillo, West Campus Chapel, located at 6100 S. Soncy Rd, Amarillo Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, Dylan would have appreciated donations made to his wife and children during this life changing time.

Dylan will be remembered for his kind disposition, his teacher’s heart, and love for a good jam session. His absence will be felt immensely, but his memory will become the melody for his loved ones to follow through life until they meet again.
