It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Dr. John Jacob “Chip” Poluhowich, of Amarillo, TX, who left us on July 22, 2024 at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. His passion for the sciences, teaching, and mentoring his students, his love of the outdoors, and his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.
Chip was born March 25, 1939 in Bridgeport, CT. He married Roberta Claire "Bobbie" Conor in 1962. They were together for 61 years until her passing last year.
Chip is survived by his four children, Robert “Scott” Poluhowich, Robin Marshack, John Bart Poluhowich, and Susan Driver, and six grandchildren, Rachel, Sasha, Jessica, Mika, Marina, and Zarek. They will miss him but will cherish his memory.
He was one of four siblings. His death was preceded by that of his twin brothers Robert Poluhowich of Roxbury, CT and William Poluhowich of Trumbull, CT. He is survived by his sister Edith Mae Rupe of Bethlehem, CT.
After getting degrees at the University of Connecticut, Iowa State University, and the University of Bridgeport, he spent 35 years teaching at the University of Connecticut, the University of Bridgeport, and West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX.
A beloved professor who was also an avid researcher, Chip authored many publications as well as a biography of Simon Lake.
