Doyle “Rod” Leland Barkley, 90, lifelong resident of Gruver, died Friday, August 3, 2018.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2018 at Gruver United Methodist Church with Steve Chappel and Scott Curry officiating. Burial will be in the Gruver Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Rod was born on April 16, 1928 in Gruver, Texas to Margie and Monsieur Barkley. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict. Rod then had his own television show in Springfield, MA from 1955 to 1958 and was a very talented musician and entertainer. He retired from farming and ranching. Rod was a lifelong member of Gruver United Methodist Church.
He married Patsy Marie Duncan on March 20, 1959 in Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Hugh, Herman, Harry, Howard and Dayton and a sister, Lera.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Barkley; two sons, Clay Barkley and wife Brigitte of Josephine, TX and Cliff Barkley of Amarillo; a daughter, Cindy Barkley of Amarillo; a sister, Estelle Chambers of Dalhart; a brother, Les Barkley of Gruver; and three grandchildren, Blair Young and husband Hollis; Garrett Barkley and Chance Barkley.
