Doris Jean Belknap Nesbitt was born on January 3, 1929, in Baird, Texas, to Walter and Elfreda Belknap. Most of us know her as Mom, Granny or Dotsy. She was the third of five children, who included Thelma, June Dotsy, Wray, and Jerry.
She grew up in Dimmitt, Texas, and attended Northwest Texas Nursing School. She was working as a nurse in Amarillo, TX when she met her future husband, William (Bill) James Nesbitt at the USO Club. They were married on November 2, 1951, at the Eastside Church of Christ. Since Bill was in the Air Force, they lived in many different places: Amarillo, Massachusetts, Germany, Lubbock, and finally returned to Amarillo. They had three children, Jim, Randy, and Nanette.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers and sisters, and her son, Jim Nesbitt.
She is survived by her beloved daughter-in-law, Elaine Nesbitt of Amarillo, TX, her son and his wife Randy and Charise Nesbitt of Amarillo, TX, and her daughter and her husband Nanette and Mike Moshier of Fairfield CA, as well as her sisters-in-law Gwindle Belknap of Stephenville, TX and Lynn Belknap of McKinney, TX. She was a beloved Granny to seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She loved quilting and crafts, reading fun mysteries, crosswords and chocolate!
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the funeral home.
