She was born in Amarillo, Texas, on February 9th, 1933. Donna attended high school in Plainview and later married Joe Gilbert. Donna and Joe lived in Oceanside, California, while Joe was in the Marines. They then moved back to Plainview, where she worked in banking and did clerical work for various people. They lived in Plainview and Tulia until moving to Amarillo in 1968, where she continued her career in banking and clerical work.
Jesus said that God’s people are to be the salt of the earth and light in the world. He was referring to the way people live. Salt provides goodness, and light dispels darkness. His people must live in ways that keep His world healthy and safe. Donna embodied this, sharing her light and being the salt of the earth by showing her goodness to everyone. If you met her or saw her, she always had a smile and a kind word.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hadley Case; mother, Mattie Lee Cazzell Case; stepfather, Olen Baughman; sister, Lana Case; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Gilbert; grandson Jeremy Thomas; and husbands, Joe Arleigh Gilbert, and George Sanders. She is survived by her sister, Rhonda, and husband, Jack Covington of Amarillo; daughter, Debbie Black, and husband, Kim of Amarillo; son, Larry Gilbert of Ajjic, Mexico; son, Paul Gilbert, and wife, Stephanie of Amarillo.
