Donald Samuel Naugher

Donald Samuel Naugher passed on from this earthly life to his eternal home, December 30, 2023. Don was born January 5, 1931 in Lake Monroe, Florida to Mark and Ezalee Naugher. When Don was around the age of 10, he and his family moved to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

In 1950, Don enlisted into the United States Air Force. He began as an airplane mechanic. A year later he became an instructor teaching B-29 Aircraft & Engine Mechanics at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. Don met the love of his life, Patsy (Pat) Harrell, while he was stationed at Sheppard AFB. They were married on the base, June 17, 1952. Six months after they were married Don was deployed to the 37

Air Rescue Squadron in Komaki, Japan for one year during the Korean Conflict. After 4 years in the Air Force, he was honorably discharged.

Don and Pat began their civilian life in Little Rock, Arkansas. They then moved to Fort Worth, Texas and then to Cleburne, Texas where Don went to work in the radio shop yard office as an electronics technician for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1969 Don and Pat moved their family one last time. They moved to Amarillo, Texas where Don worked in the Communications Department for The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company.  Don worked for Santa Fe Railway for 32 years at which time he was able to retire early. Don thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years. Don and Pat made many road trips to visit with family in Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia, and Florida. They were also able to spend much cherished time with their grandchildren.

Don was a very handy man. Whether it was automotive, plumbing, electrical, or house remodeling, he was able and willing to do the job. Someone broke a glass one day and one of his young children stated, “My Daddy can fix it with a screwdriver.” We all knew that Dad could fix just about anything.

Don and Pat were faithful church goers. In the early 70s when a move of the Holy Spirit swept through our Methodist church, they became more than just church goers. They had a greater revelation of the love of Jesus and His love for them. They moved to Buchannan Street United Methodist Church where they could fellowship with others whose lives had been transformed by the Holy Spirit. In 1978 they began attending Trinity Fellowship Church and have been faithful members since. Don and Pat were  involved with the Bethesda Outreach Center for 11 years. They oversaw ordering food from the Amarillo Food Bank and getting the food sacked and ready for pick-up the following day. For many years they served together as Sunday morning door greeters. Don also served on the Levite Team. He enjoyed making people feel welcomed to church. Don loved people and people loved him in return. He was a generous man and was always willing to help out in whatever way he could.

Don was preceded in death by his parents;  Pat, his wife, married 69 years;  his sisters, Reba (Naugher) Kaeserman and Blanche (Naugher) Dinwiddie; his brothers, Walter Naugher, Julian Naugher and Dale Naugher.

Don is survived by his children; David Naugher and wife Cindy of Lubbock, Texas; Sammye (Naugher) Mardis and her husband Cecil of Cleveland, Texas; Brett Naugher and his wife Deborah of Amarillo, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
