Don Eugene Brown, 91, of Amarillo, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, music, and devotion to family.
Born in Gray County near Pampa to Mattie May Stokes and Clifford Eugene Brown, Don graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953. After serving his country overseas in the Army, he found love with Betty Jo Brewster of Wheeler County, whom he married in 1964.
For 42 years, Don served his community as a dedicated mail carrier with the United States Post Office in Amarillo. His commitment to service extended far beyond his postal route – he devoted his free time to visiting the sick, offering communion, and delivering meals to homebound church members, living his faith through actions of kindness.
Music flowed through Don's life like a constant melody. A gifted self-taught musician, he mastered the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and banjo. His passion for Gospel, Old Time Country, and especially Bluegrass Music led him and Betty on countless adventures across Texas, where they became fixtures at Bluegrass Festivals.
In his kitchen-turned-laboratory, Don perfected the art of sourdough baking. His carefully cultivated starters produced legendary breads, biscuits, and pie crusts that became family treasures.
Don's greatest joy came from his family: his wife Betty, children Cliff and Carolyn, and his beloved grandchildren Isaac, Hannah, Haven, Cadence, and Colter. He often chuckled about finally understanding why grandparents couldn't stop talking about their grandchildren once he had his own to cherish.
A celebration of Don's remarkable life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Selah Event Center, 3310 Wimberly, Amarillo, TX 79109. Friends and family are invited to share memories of how Don touched their lives, accompanied by some of his favorite treats.
