Dennis was born in Quanah, Texas on February 8, 1947. He was the son of John Karr and Inez Braziel. Dennis graduated from Canyon High School in 1966 and married Phyllis Cline in July of the same year. The two married in Clovis, New Mexico. Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1963. He eventually went on to active duty in 1967, where he served time as a Gunner’s Mate and a rescue swimmer on the USS Cone Destroyer DD-866 during the Vietnam War. Following the completion of his military service, Dennis worked a short time for Santa Fe Railroad, before he pursued his lifelong career as a professional paint contractor. He took a break from painting to become a car salesman for nearly a decade during the 90’ and early 2000s. He was known as “Karr Karr” in the business. After the 10-year hiatus, he returned to painting and continued his work for the remainder of his life.
Dennis enjoyed life to the fullest in every way. He loved everyone and never met a stranger. He loved his family more than anything. Dennis took great pride in his craft of painting both commercial and residential and as he would proudly explain, “I painted half of Amarillo.” Dennis never missed a day of work and took pride in teaching others along the way the importance of hard work. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday with his family. He was very caring and generous to other people. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, water skiing, hunting, and golfing.
