Debra "Debbie" Kay Bernson

Debra Kay “Debbie” Bernson, 64, of Amarillo, TX passed away on August 4, 2024. 

Service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 16, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

Debbie was born December 20, 1959, in Pampa, TX to Burdette Olver Brown and Eula Lee (Powell) Brown. Debbie graduated from Caprock High School and from West Texas State University. She taught school for 30 years at San Jan Jacinto elementary school in Amarillo. Debbie was an avid Amarillo hockey team fan and loved to play and watch soccer. She even coached soccer at Tascosa High School for a while. She loved the outdoors including traveling, hiking, mountain biking, camping, gardening, and bird watching. She also loved to play a variety of games with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burdette and Eula Brown, and her brothers, Alfred and Claud Brown of Amarillo.

Debbie is survived by her sister, Jewel Lee Downing and brother-in-law Steven Downing of Lubbock.
