Troy and I became friends shortly after he joined the US Grains Council. We worked together well and used each other as sounding boards. He was so frustrated when health issues forced him to give up his board seat, He came to meetings that he should not have with a lot of pain. He was a great friend and I have great respect for him and his commitment as an Agricultural Leader.

Troy was a cousin of mine from Umbarger and remained a close friend all of my life. He always quick to hug and share that wonderful smile any time we met up at various events. So thankful we crossed paths at the airport last August with our spouses headed to vacation. A true gentleman and loving husband, Troy beamed when he spoke of his grandkids. He was so loved and will be missed by so many! God bless him!

It was both inspirational and an honor to have served with Troy on a committee of the U.S. Grains Council. My the family take solace that so many from so far were so positively touched by Troy’s kind and inclusive and engaging manner that brings forth these sentiments at this time of introspection, reflection and empathy at this time upon of reflection on what we knew of his life. RIP, Troy. I am so inspired to have learned more about you in your passing than I actually knew of you in life.

I am so sorry to hear about Troy. I got to know him in 2005 during a trip to Morocco and Zambia with the US Grains Council. He was an incredibly warm and genuine person. During that trip we visited a World Food Program refugee program on the boarder with Angola. I fondly remember Troy sitting down and eating sorghum porridge with a small boy and although they couldn’t talk the same language, he succeeding in bonding with the child through laughter. That is how I remember Troy, always smiling and full of life.
