David Clyde Thompson, 75, of Amarillo, TX passed away September 9, 2024. David was born March 15, 1949 in Clovis, NM to Clyde and Doris Shoemate Thompson. After graduation from Clovis High School in 1967, He proudly served the US Navy in Vietnam as an E5 Engineman 2nd Class. After serving three tours in the Brown Water Navy, he returned home and married his best friend Patricia and together they became longtime Clovis, NM business owners.
David was a man of many talents, especially the ability to tackle several projects at the same time. He had a passion for building and repairing everything from engines to woodwork. Later in life he found a love for ranching and caring for animals. He could often be found working in his yard making sure it looked just right all while enjoying a football or baseball game on his outdoor tv, never missing the Dallas Cowboys or the Texas Rangers. He was an avid western enthusiast. David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren taking them on many outings to the lake, making peanut butter cookies and feeding the “Aflacs”, as they called them. David loved his family with a kind and gentle-hearted calmness that could be felt by all those that loved him. Most of all, David was a man of honor who loved the Lord. This was evident by his ability to always make a friend and find the best in all that knew him.
David is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Doris Thompson, and sister Carol Smith. He is survived by Patricia his loving wife and best friend of 50 years; sister Joyce and husband Vaughn of Cope, Colorado; sister Shirley and husband Larry of Benbrook, Texas and loved his many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a multitude of cousins. Known as Dad or Papa, he was blessed with beautiful children and delighted to love his wonderful grandchildren and fantastic great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2-4:00 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 16, 2024, at St. Paul Methodist Church. Private family interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
