David Larry Hawkins

David Larry Hawkins, age 72, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away at home on December 1, 2024. 

Born to Louis Dorothy Bozeman and David Alexander Hawkins on June 2, 1952, David was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Glenn, but leaves behind sister, Jewel, to celebrate his memory.

David grew up on a farm, where he developed a lifelong connection to nature and an early appreciation for hard work, learning to drive a tractor and harvest crops as a young boy. Over the course of his life, he earned his carpenter's license and spent more than 25 years working in the cooling tower industry, eventually rising to the position of VP of Sales before his retirement in 2022.

On June 20, 1999, David married Donna Jean Bennett, and they shared a partnership filled with love and devotion until his passing. Together, they created a home full of warmth and laughter. David’s love for nature extended beyond his work, as he was an avid gardener, despite his ongoing battle with the squirrels and robins who would frequently invade his backyard. His passion for capturing the beauty of the world around him was reflected in his stunning photography of naturescapes.

Known for his meticulous organization and an unexpected fondness for spreadsheets, David had a mind for detail that extended beyond his career. He was a mentor to many, offering guidance and counsel to both friends and family with generosity and care. David’s legacy as a father, husband, and grandfather will be remembered by all who knew him. His deep love for his family, combined with his unwavering support, made him a pillar of strength for those closest to him.

David had a special place in his heart for good food, particularly Mexican dishes and his mother’s homemade dressing. However, his true weakness was always dessert, a favorite indulgence that brought him joy.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Jean; his son David and daughters Roxanne and Gidget; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family, all of whom will miss him dearly. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
