David Eugene Craig, 60 years young, passed away on August 3, 2024, doing exactly what he loved: cycling.
Born on September 27, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, he was a cherished son of Gwen and Gary Craig. David graduated from Topeka West High School.
David is survived by his children, Crystal Kay and Kendal David, and his older brother, Jeff Craig. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gwen and Gary Craig.
Pre-good ole State of Texas: David spent his years in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Alabama. David grew up in Topeka, where he and his brother Jeff raced banana bikes before upgrading to 10-speeds. David developed a love and strong skillset for skateboarding throughout junior high and high school. He made life-long friends everywhere he went and enjoyed the outdoors: camping and riding jet skis. An avid cyclist, David spent countless hours throughout the last 25 years on trails he meticulously mapped out. He also enjoyed many years cruising on his motorcycles and in his mustangs.
David retired from Walmart after 30 years of dedicated service where he was an instrumental part of raising money and volunteering time for Children’s Miracle Network and various other charities. His retirement years were enriched with activities he loved: cycling, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his children.
David loved traveling in his RV with, Sugar Bear, man’s best friend. Post-retirement, David kept busy building fences, doors, and pergolas. He followed in his father’s footsteps, showcasing his creativity by crafting tables, coasters, and other woodworking projects for his children, family and friends.
David was a devoted father and loyal friend, known for his wit and vast knowledge. David was a proud Marine and loved our country. He supported his son's hockey pursuits and traveled many miles to be wherever his son was playing. More recently he took up pickleball, coaching his daughter on the game. They most recently played in a league as a daddy/daughter team called Sorta Big Dill. A true Kansas Chiefs fan long before it was cool. David knew good music and was a frequent concertgoer. Some of his highlights included seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd and Styx, taking his daughter to see Kansas and Foreigner, his son to see Queen, and both to see Nickelback.
David's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Ride will begin at Buff Trials in Canyon, Texas, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, beginning at 8:00 A.M., for a 37.73-mile round trip. To complete the ride, a gathering and cookout will take place at Buff Trails to celebrate David's life around 11:00 A.M.
