David Allen Cargill

David Allen Cargill, 75, of Amarillo, TX passed away on July 23, 2023.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at First Christian Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

David was born September 11, 1947, in Dallas, TX, to Grady and Louise Cargill. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970. While in graduate school, he was drafted into the United States Navy, where he proudly served. After his service, he completed his master’s degree at West Texas A&M University. David’s passion was always education and kids. He began his teaching career as a speech/debate teacher at Tascosa High School in Amarillo ISD. He later became an assistant principal at Tascosa. His first principalship was at Travis Middle School, and after several years, he became the principal of Amarillo High School. He later served as the Cluster Director for the Amarillo and Tascosa Clusters in AISD. After 33 years, David retired as the Personnel Director of AISD. He loved all his jobs and was always proud of the students, faculty, and staff he had the privilege to work with. Upon his retirement, he served as the UIL District Chairman for District 3-5A, which enabled him to stay in contact with many of the people he worked with over the years.

David was a longtime member of First Christian Church where he lovingly served as deacon, elder and Chairman of the Board.

David is survived by his wife, Camille Cargill; his son Derek Cargill and wife, Shanna of Haslet, TX; his daughter, Casey and husband, Shane Newman of Amarillo; and the light of his life; his grandchildren, Addison, Jackson, and Payton.
