Darwin L. Reagen went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2022. He was 87 years old. Darwin was born on September 12, 1934, in Shep, Texas, to Geneva and Claude Reagan. He was the second oldest of 9 children. He spent most of his childhood in Shep, TX and then in Amarillo.
As a young man, he was working in Roswell, NM, when he went on a weekend trip to Juarez, Mexico and stopped at a cafe in Ruidoso, NM. There he met the love of his life, Annette Coben. During their short courtship, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Seabees Construction Division. He married Ann on his boot camp leave on March 12, 1955 and they were together for 67 years. He served in the Navy for 5 years.
After leaving the Navy, he and Ann settled in Amarillo, Texas where they raised 4 children. He was a framing subcontractor and home builder and was involved in construction for over 45 years. He was a talented woodworker and built a family cabin in Cloudcroft, NM from the ground up. He also built family homes for himself and his family members.
He knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior and spent the mornings of his last years with his wife in the study of God’s word. He showed us his faith in God and showed us that in times of grief you have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and carry on. Most importantly, he taught us to give and receive love and his legacy will continue as we strive to do the same with our families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva and Claude Reagan. His son Mike Reagen, his daughter Deanna Ross, his son-in-law David Boykin, his sisters, Pat Reagan, Woo King, Jerrie Robinson, Mary Cogburn and his brothers, Adrian Reagan and Pete Reagan.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Reagen of Bushland, his sister, Nata Wheeler of Qunicy, MO, his brother Gene Reagan of Sheridan, TX, his daughter, Missy Boykin of Cheyenne, OK, his daughter Andy Orr and her husband, Ricky Orr of Amarillo, son-in- law Steve Ross of Ft. Worth, granddaughter Kara Bottom and her husband Brad of Cheyenne, Ok, granddaughter Jodi Yoakum and her husband Will of Cheyenne, Ok, grandson Jason Orr and his wife Britni of Amarillo, grandson Reagan Orr and his wife Bailey of Amarillo, grandson Matt Ross and his wife Megan of Rockwall, TX, granddaughter Niki Ross of Ft. Worth and 11 great grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and could always be counted on for a funny story and to keep us laughing. He loved family get-togethers and the desserts that were always a part of those. Words can’t express how much we will miss him and our hearts will forever feel a loss, but we are comforted in knowing that he is with his Father in heaven and already looking for a vanilla shake and big piece of chocolate cake.
Services will be at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, on Friday, May 13th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A short graveside service will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14408 IH-27 Frontage Rd., Amarillo, TX.
