Darrell "Ronnie" Leon Basden

April 17, 1935 — April 7, 2025

Darrell Leon Basden, lovingly known as Ronnie by his family and friends, was born on April 17, 1935, in Whittenburg, Texas-now known as Phillips-to Lacy Markus and Anna Basden. He was the fifth of six children.

In 1956, Ronnie met the love of his life, Geraldine "Jeri" Neihert, in Follett, Texas. The two were married on July 14, 1956, and shared a beautiful life together until Jeri's passing.

Ronnie proudly retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992. Never one to sit still, he turned his passion into a hobby by starting a small car lot business in 1993. He thoroughly enjoyed buying and selling cars and could often be found sharing stories and laughter over his latest finds.

A true family man, Ronnie loved his children and grandchildren more than life itself. He was known for his sense of humor and playful spirit-especially during his legendary "purple and yellow-spotted bobcat hunts" with his grandchildren, where, mysteriously, he was always the only one to ever spot the creature.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Geraldine Basden; his son, Kevin Lee Basden; and siblings Jerry Don Basden, Verneal Walker, Ima Jean Barnum, and Junior Basden.

He is survived by his daughters, Ronni Lynn Dial of Amarillo, and Marsha Evans-Williams and husband Michael of Tucson, Arizona.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cameron Dial, Ana Dreadin, Dylan Greer, Seth Williams, Jayme Estrada, and Tyler Evans-Williams; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ronnie is also survived by his brother, Sonny Basden and wife Eve; his longtime friend and buddy, Fletcher Prestridge; and last but not least, his faithful dog Otis, whom he loved dearly.

Ronnie's love, laughter, and legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Interim Hospice. A special thanks to Tabitha, Clarissa, and close friend Patty for taking such loving care of Ronnie. He loved each of you for your patience and kind words.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 9th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd in Amarillo, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 10th, at 10:00 a.m. at Boxwell Brothers Chapel, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. in Follett, Texas.
