Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, in St. John Lutheran Church, 207 S. Meredith Ave., Dumas, with the Rev. Don Poole, pastor, officiating. A private burial service for the family will be conducted prior to church services. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.
Darrel was born Sept. 2, 1922, at Staples, MN to Howard and Alice Reynolds. Darrel served in the Army in WWII. He married Marcella Lanning on Nov. 1, 1947, at Redwood Falls, MN. He passed away 9 days before their 66th wedding anniversary. Two children were born to this union: Scott (Marietta) and Madrene (David) Talley. Grandchildren include Michaela Reynolds, Tara (Kelly) Brown, Jeff Talley, and Kevin Talley. Great-grandchildren include Hayden and Molly Brown.
Darrel was employed by DeKalb Agriculture from 1948, until his retirement in 1983. He was the plant manager in Dumas the last 19 years. He is credited with introducing panhandle farmers to raising corn. Following his retirement, he served as an entomologist to farmers in the surrounding area and as president and caretaker of the Dumas cemetery. Darrel was active in his church and the Dumas community in various capacities including the Lions’ Club.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Nenow; aunt, Bess Ross; and niece, Janet Burns. In addition to his wife and family, he is survived by niece, Marlys Nenow, and many relative and friends.
