Darlene Ruth Wann, 85, of Amarillo, died July 16, 2023.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Graveside services will be observed at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega, TX, located 1 mile West of I-40 on Cemetery Rd for family following services. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Darlene was born December 11, 1937 in Clayton, NM. She was raised on a farm in Sedan, NM until 1953. She attended Sedan Elementary School and graduated Clayton High School. Upon her graduation, she moved to Amarillo to attend Amarillo College for Business Accounting. While at Amarillo College she was on the Archery Team and Volleyball team.
On November 14, 1957, she married Oliver Alonzo Wann at First Baptist Church in Amarillo and were married just shy of 60 years. She lived in the Texas Panhandle her entire adult life including, Sunray, Hartley, Adrian, and Bushland where she worked and played. Darlene was a dedicated wife, mother, homemaker, office manager, and friend. She was a hard worker and enjoyed the outdoors. She also enjoyed traveling, baking, playing bridge and spades, volleyball, arts and crafts. She was very proud of and adored her grandchildren. Holidays were always special to her and she looked forward to spending time with her family. Many memories were made traveling to Colorado and Yuma, Arizona where she and Oliver made many friends and acquaintances.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Alonzo Wann; daughter, Mende Ruth Wann; father, George Winfield Lechner; mother, Lela Nina Lechner; and brother, Ted H. Lechner.
She is survived by sons, Roger (Carol) Wann and Justin (Joanna) Wann; brother, Donald (Nancy) Lechner; sisters, Ila Roach, Georgia (Rodney) Dimitroff, and Mary (Billy) Lutes; grandchildren, Holli (Jake) Hodges, Ashley (Ryan) Higley, Austin (Andrea) Wann, Riley (Tristan) Stanhope, Lane Wann, and Casey Wann; and 5 great-grandchildren.
