Darlene Mae (Herman) Lyle, Age 87, of Amarillo passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, Texas, with Chaplain Erick Kirby officiating. A private family burial will be held preceding the service. Arrangements are under the care of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109.
Darlene was born on February 5, 1937 to Michael and Elsie Herman in Hardin, Montana. At a young age, the family moved to the Wyoming/Nebraska area where Darlene attended school, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1955. After graduation, she was employed with The Brown Bean Company in Morrill, Nebraska, in the bookkeeping department.
Darlene met Robert (Bob) Lyle of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and they were later married on March 24, 1957, where they made their home. She worked for Nebraska Securities Company until the birth of their daughter, Jan. At that point, she became a stay-at-home mom for Jan and Randy who was born two years later. In 1965, the family transferred to Clovis, New Mexico where Bradley was born. Fifteen years later, in 1980, another work-related transfer followed resulting in a move to Guymon, Oklahoma. Darlene worked for the Federal Land Bank of Western Oklahoma in Guymon, retiring after 17 ½ years as Operations Supervisor. She and Bob later made their retirement home in Amarillo.
Darlene grew up in the Congregational Church and after their marriage, she and Bob joined the First Presbyterian Church. In Clovis, she was involved in Sunday school, teaching the pre-school classes and became very active in the Women of the Church Circle. Later, in Amarillo, Darlene and Bob became members of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was involved in the Women of Church Circle (Meta Thomas), Footsteps Ministry, and served in various other capacities within the church. Darlene enjoyed following her daughter’s musical talent on the piano, along with her sons in their sporting activities of football, baseball, basketball and track.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob), her parents, Mike and Elsie Herman, and her in-laws, Virgil and Irma Lyle.
Survivors include, a daughter, Jan (Brad) Williams of Amarillo, TX; two sons, Randy Lyle (Shari Brooks) of Dodge City, KS; Bradley Lyle of Edmond, OK, grandsons Jeremy (Candee) Williams and Ryan (Lori) Williams of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter Evyn Grace Lyle of Norman, OK; great-grandchildren Tanner Satterfield (fiancée Ariel Benegas), Kelby Williams and Rylee Jo Williams all of Amarillo, TX; a brother Mel (Deloyce) Herman of Murrieta, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
