Dan N. Fountain

Dan N. Fountain, 63 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, August 15,2023 in Amarillo, TX.

Dan was born September 30, 1959, to George and Helen Fountain in Augusta, GA. He spent his childhood in Augusta, GA and, after graduation, relocated to Amarillo, TX. He started his 42-year career with the BLM Exell Helium plant in 1978 as a basic laborer under a Temporary Appointment. He was converted to a Career-Conditional Appointment in 1979 and promoted to Instrument Mechanic in 1982. In 2008, Dan was promoted to Petroleum Engineer Technician. Since 2013 he had served as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic. Dan was also a long-time officer for the local chapter of the United Steelworkers Union.

Dan earned his favorite title of Papa in 1995. His grandchildren were his whole world and as soon as they were old enough, he shared his hobbies of riding motorcycles and travelling with them. He had fun planning adventures and took them to visit Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, and Daytona Florida, to name a few. There were horseback rides, helicopter excursions, and many other activities that have given a lifetime full of great memories. In addition to sharing his hobbies, he was always cheering them on and supporting them in their interests. He could be found in the stands watching them wrestle, play football, and run track or in the audience at a school concert or awards show.  And of course, we can’t forget that he was always handing out that “walking around money”. In April of 2023, he was promoted to great Papa when his first great-granddaughter, Kendalynn, was born. He was a very proud Papa and would be happy to tell you all about it.
