In Loving Memory of Clyde S. Perkins
June 30, 1924 – February 8, 2025
Clyde S. Perkins was born on June 30, 1924, in Jellico, TN, to W.R. (Bill) and Hazel Smith Perkins. As a young man, he lived in Dallas, TX, and served in the Army Air Corps from October 1942 to 1946. Following his service, he earned his electrical engineering degree from Southern Methodist University.
While working at Lone Star Gas Company in San Angelo, TX, Clyde met the love of his life, Alma Gertrude Sauer Perkins. They married on November 7, 1953, and spent 70 wonderful years together before her passing.
Clyde was a loving and devoted husband, a kind and caring father, a joyful and encouraging Papa, and a hero to all who knew him. He embraced challenges with hope, faith, and optimism, meeting life head-on with unwavering determination. A true patriot, he believed in standing up for his country, often researching candidates and encouraging others to vote their values—ensuring their voices were heard for the sake of future generations.
Despite losing his vision due to macular degeneration, Clyde never wavered in his determination. When he could no longer drive, he took up cycling—riding daily to visit his mother in the nursing home and help others there. He trained for months and participated in numerous cycling events, including the MS 150.
Above all, Clyde was a perfect example of Christlikeness. His deep faith shaped every aspect of his life, and his love for others reflected the heart of Jesus. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren remember him as fair, kind, compassionate, honorable, encouraging, genuine, joyful, devoted, generous, patient, humble, faithful, and full of grace. A true hero, he lived his life with integrity, optimism, and unwavering hope.
Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Gertrude Perkins. His legacy lives on in his children: Gayle Nivens (husband Thomas), Carl Perkins, and Jan Blades (husband John); his grandchildren: Laura Flores, Matthew Blades, Amy Warren, Ashley Allred, Christy Perkins, Jessica Eaves, and Cory Perkins; his 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 13, at 10:30 AM at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX. Interment will follow at Northlawn Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
