Charlie “Ruth” Garno

Charlie “Ruth” Garno, age 92, entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.  Born to parents James Allison Lee and Allie Jane Conner on September 6, 1929, in Tell, Texas.  Her parents worked and lived on a ranch, and she attended school at Tell and Childress.  She met and later married James Albert Garno in July 1947 who was then stationed at the Air Force base.  During this marriage, they had four children.

Ruth was a very loving and unselfish person.  She never knew a stranger and accepted all into her home at any time.  She loved her family and always put their needs first.  She was at San Jacinto Baptist Church (now The Church at Quail Creek) for many, many years.  She worked in the Children’s nursery, mostly with the newborns.  She loved those babies and cared for them like they were her own.  She took care of many children and then as they married, she also had some of their children as well.  Ruth was well liked by the older children, and many would go see her to say hello and get a hug on Sunday mornings or after church.  The church honored her at her retirement with the Children’s wing being named in her honor in May 2007.

Ruth had a large, loving church family.  She loved going to church and sitting in her favorite pew.  She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play and watching old westerns.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Garno; two brothers; and three sisters.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Al Garno and wife Jackie, and John Garno and wife Joyce; one daughter, Phyllis Rockhold and husband Billy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2022, at The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Road with Associate Pastor Dale Moreland officiating.  Interment will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
