Catherine Haney

We mourn the death of Catherine Haney.  She was born Martha Catherine Robbins on August 28, 1917, and died on October 10, 2018, 101 years old.  Born and raised in Brown County, Texas, she lived the life of a hardworking farm girl. In 1934, Catherine met and married John Haney, a marriage that lasted 67 years.  In 1943, John and Catherine moved to Stratford, Texas where they would live the next 22 years.  In 1965, they moved to Dalhart, Texas, a place they would call home until John’s death in 2001.  Catherine would continue to live there until 2013, when she moved to Amarillo to be closer to her family.

Catherine loved many things: sewing, cooking, gardening, and keeping house.  But most of all she loved her family.  There was not a day in her life that she did not consider her family and its well-being and always worked toward that end.  She loved both the communities she lived in, Stratford and Dalhart, and was active in the schools and later with Senior Citizens.  Equally, Catherine loved the Lord and both Churches of Christ in Stratford and Dalhart.  She committed her life to caring deeply for both of these, family and Church.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include two children, Joyce Dodson and husband Les (deceased), Danny Haney and wife Kathleen.  Five grandchildren, Brenda Forehand, Dena Ammons and husband Drexel, Jonathan Haney, Marc Haney, and Christie Gray and husband John Gray.  Three great-grandchildren, Johnny Forehand, Jud Seiwart, and Cora Brewer.  Four great-great-grandchildren, Jordan, Lyric, and Kennedy Forehand, and Maybre Seiwart.

We request that memorials be sent to In Search of the Lord’s Way in Edmund, Oklahoma.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2018, at the Church of Christ at Stratford, Texas.  Burial will follow at the Stratford Cemetery in Stratford.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

The family will receive friends from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

it was such an honor to have met Mrs Haney – she always had a smile which she shared with everyone – it was a joy each time her son and daughter in law visited our facility – I looked forward to your visits as much as Mrs Haney did – please keep in touch and if there is anything I can do please call on me – my prayers Mody Montgomery – Amarillo Center for Skilled Care

    Danny, Kathy and family,,
I feel sad that I never met Mrs. Haney. I know that her long life
touched so many and that her family was evidence of her
love and devotion. Our thoughts and love are with you all.
