Calvin Montgomery, 93, passed from this Earth to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. His wife of 72 years, Ernestine, had just passed on 4 weeks earlier.
Calvin was born in 1925, to Tom and Eloda (Hiltbrunner) Montgomery, of Wheeler and Shamrock. He had an older brother, Marvin, and two sisters, Fontilla and Delilah. As Calvin was growing up, the family farmed in Wheeler, later moving to Shamrock. In high school, Calvin excelled in athletics and speech competitions. He served in the Air Force during World War II in England.
Calvin and Ernestine married in 1945, and had two children. They moved to Amarillo in 1952, where both worked, and were active members at First Baptist Church, where Calvin was a deacon. They moved to Perryton for several years during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, farming with Calvin’s brother, retiring back in Amarillo.
Calvin is survived by their two children, Don and Linda; three grandchildren and their families, with five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the families of his brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018, in the basement chapel at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Corky Holland officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
