"Buzzy" Russell H. Jarnagin

“Buzzy” Jarnagin (Russell H. Jarnagin) made his departure from this life on March 24, 2025, at the age of 56.

Buzzy was born in Gilroy, California, on May 24, 1968, to parents Rusty and Delores Jarnagin and his big sister, Debbie. The family soon moved to Wildorado, Texas, and a few years later, Buzzy became a big brother to Jeff.

As a kid, his dad taught him to be a hard worker, but Buzzy always found time for fun—and trouble like almost burning down the barn with his friends, John and Dennis. After elementary school in Wildorado, Buzzy attended junior high and high school in nearby Vega, Texas, where he excelled in math and always looked forward to the annual FFA Possum Kingdom Lake trip. Buzzy also loved a good cribbage game with anyone who was up for losing. When he was 16 years old, people in Vega and the area got to know him more as he pumped their gas, changed or repaired their tires, serviced their cars, and sold them parts. He held that job for 30+ years and truly cared about every person he helped.

He was one of those guys who swore he would never marry—that is, until Barbara Groneman walked into his life. She loved all the same things as Buzzy, like fishing, hunting, and camping. Buzzy fell head over heels in love with Barbara. They were married on February 29th, 2004. Yes, a leap year! Buzzy adored Barbara throughout their entire marriage, and as her health took a turn, he was completely and totally devoted to her needs and care.

Buzzy was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend to many, doing everything he could for anyone who needed help. He loved his close friends who would hang out on his patio with him and considered them a part of his family.

Survivors include: wife, Barbara Jarnagin; mother, Delores Jarnagin; sister, Debbie Hatfield (Nolan Bledsoe); brother, Jeff Jarnagin (Shawn Walsh); niece, Chelsea Hatfield; great-nephews, Rodee Rigo and Casey Hatfield. He also leaves five brothers-in-law and their spouses, two sisters-in-law and their spouses, and many more nephews and nieces who loved him dearly. Buzzy was preceded in death by his dad, Russell “Rusty” Jarnagin.

A backyard memorial celebration for Buzzy is planned for Friday, April 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. (411 N. 5th St., Vega, Texas)
